Our original venture was a pop up shop during the Clipper Festival in Derry in 2012, after we formed the Craft Village Collective which opened in August 2012, originally with 13 members, growing to 20. The aim of the Collective was simple, to provide an umbrella retail outlet for small individual craft businesses.
In Spring 2015, a larger unit in the Craft Village became available and we realised the potential of moving and expanding to a bigger brighter space, we became a Community Interest Company, which means that we run as a not for profit organisation with a community ethos.
We have 20 members with the potential for 25. Many of our members are this region’s top designer makers and are full-time engaged in their practice with a strong cross border presence.
We offer workshops in Number 19 and in the Thatch Cottage which aim to extend the knowledge and use of traditional craft skills in contemporary craft practice. We offer mentoring to young designers, offering a retail space to test the market and showcase their work.
We are committed to be a craft and design hub and be an active part of the cultural life in the heart of the city.
Everything you see in Number 19 has been designed and made locally and every penny you spend goes directly to the makers.
