This piece was inspired by two wonderful tower blocks in Mississauga, Toronto, which rotate from the ground upwards and won an award at the Glebe Gallery, Co Donegal last year as part of their Easter competition. It would make a large statement piece for a roomy interior.
To make it I threw two large pieces on the wheel which were then distorted. When stiffened they were joined together and offset to give the appearance of rotation. A base was attached at one end and the other end was carved to make the top. It has a white tin glaze inside and dry oxide decoration on the exterior with scraffito near rim.
