At-the-wheel On the Friday morning of the 19th August 2016 the Number 19 team were dismayed as the skies opened and it rained and rained, none the less the tea hatch was set up, the demonstrators arrived including Tom Agnew and Deirdre O’Callaghan with a potters wheel, Theresa Coyle from Alpha Crafts with her stained glass, Aine Clarke from Hansel and Gretel with her colourful crochet.

Our incredible musicians arrived the talented guitarists Cunningham and Lynch.

We huddled under our fab gazebo installed by Neil Boyle one of our newer makers but the rain stopped and the sun began to shine.

At 2pm we were treated to a really interesting talk from Tom Agnew of Mill Pottery. Tom focused on his public art work commissions and we could have listened to him all afternoon.

Karen O’Kane of Kokodesigns  spoke about her textile painting on silk and the development of her business in County Donegal.

Followed by Maureen McGhee a talented artist and silversmith  who entertained the crowd with personal insights into her work and creative process.

The Deputy Mayor Jim McKeever joined us for the afternoon as did lots of the public including international visitors and those from closer to home such as Co Tyrone.

A lovely tea was served by Liam Grier and Maureen, not only is Liam a very fine knitwear designer he also makes a fine cuppa.

Sandra our soap maker was flat out on the tills as the customers availed of our special birthday discount

Other makers meeting the customers and talking about their work were Siobhan Montgomery of Northern Lights. Robert Spotten our Silversmith, Leona Devine who was all in purple to match our colours. Audrey Henry who paints the Donegal Landscapes in the shop also came along with her lovely little boy.

People were really keen to try out the wheel with the guidance of Deirdre from DocPot , to learn about the traditional craft of stained glass with Theresa Coyle and talk to Aine Clarke about her lovely crochet, Aine regularly takes workshops in Number 19.

A special thanks to Marie McGrellis who spent the day taking our photos and if you would like her to do the same for you she is also a member of Number 19.

Number 19 Craft and Design is a Community Interest Company with a mission to connect with the local community it was great to see the community really come along and celebrate with us.

Our next event will be a Meet the Maker event on the 16th September 6pm-9pm in the shop to celebrate Culture Night. All welcome. Every day the shop is run by our makers so call in and say hello.
