Maureen Mc Ghee Designs

Selling handmade framed wall pieces using various woods, including Irish Bog Oak combined with silver. Also jewellery using 5,000 year old Irish Bog Oak, and, bespoke silver jewellery.
Maureen’s love of silver with its purity and simplicity of line complements her fascination with Celtic traditions and beliefs. The idea that the Celts believed that the centre of a spiral represents the place where heaven and earth meet gives a symbolism to what is, in essence, a very simple shape.

The sense of time, textures and colours within Irish Bog Woods and Bog Oak make them a favourite of Maureen’s design style. It is delicately crafted with respect to uncover its natural beauty and deliver a unique piece of Art, known to Maureen as “Treasures”. Maureen’s studies with crafts began in 1981 in Grennan Mill Craft School, Thomastown, Co Kilkenny Ireland. She went on to study an Arts Foundation Course at Letterkenny Regional Technical College. She continued her studies at the University of Ulster, Belfast, Northern Ireland where she obtained a First Class Honours Degree in 3D Design specialising in Jewellery. This is when she became interested in combining wood and metal to form pieces which provide a portal into location focused history, family and community story telling – she has continued this approach in her current work.
